Pandelela wins gold at Fina Diving Grand Prix

KUALA LUMPUR: National diving queen Pandelela Rinong produced a sensational performance to secure the gold medal in the women’s 10m individual platform at the Australian Diving Grand Prix at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Australia yesterday.

The Rio Olympics silver medallist accumulated 319.40 points after five round of dives, according to the tournament’s official Facebook page;2017 FINA Diving Grand Prix Gold Coast.

Celine Toth of Canada and the hosts’ diver, Anna Rose Keating had to settle for silver and bronze, respectively after amassing 310.20 points and 285.65 points.

Malaysia’s Kimberly Bong finished in last place out of six divers with 237.45 points.

Pandelela secured her second medal of the day by winning the silver with Leong Mun Yee in the women’s 10m synchronised platform with 287.10 points.

Two Australian pairs – Melissa Wu/Taneka Kovchenko and Brittany O’Brien/Anna Rose Keating claimed the gold and bronze after amassing 300.24 points and 281.34 points respectively.

The national diving squad added another silver via Jellson Jabillin and Cheong Jun Hoong after the pair accumulated 262.71 points in the mixed synchronised 10m platform event.

The host pair of Lucas Thomson/Gemma McArthur won the gold with 269.46 points in the event which was only participated by two pairs. — Bernama
