BNM remains confident of a moderate outlook for the headline and core inflation, largely supported by softer domestic fuel prices and smaller effect from global cost factors.

KUCHING: The Sarawak Financial Carnival, the first to be organised by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in the state, will include ‘pocket talk’ sessions to raise public awareness on financial services and sound financial management.

BNM Kuching Office head, Rosnani Mahamad Zain said at the carnival the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) would educate on areas related to credit, financial management and debt restructuring while the Royal Malaysia Police would highlight on get-rich schemes and financial scams.

“In addition the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will talk on retirement plans and the General Insurance Association of Malaysia will discuss on liberalisation of motor insurance,” she said here yesterday.

The carnival themed ‘Prioritise Your Financial Needs’ to be held at the Cityone Exhibition Centre here from 10am to 10pm for three days beginning Nov 24,  would be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in the presence of Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim.

Rosnani  said over 40 institutions comprising financial service providers, associations and government agencies would be participating in the carnival to offer a wide range of financial products and services to meet different needs.

“Throughout the three-day carnival, the public can seek financial counseling or dispute resolution services, check on their financial records or have their credit report (CCRIS) printed as well as seek advice on funds available for small medium enterprises and information on the Malaysian Ringgit,” she said.

Rosnani added that the carnival would be enlivened by mini concerts featuring popular celebrities, among them, Hafiz Suip and At Adau with special appearances by diving queen Pandelela  Rinong  and Si Kijang as well Didi and Friends mascots.

“Visitors will also have the opportunity to win prizes worth more than RM150,000 through quizzes and lucky draws,” she said.
