KANOWIT: Councillors and staff of Kanowit District Council (KDC) have been told to honour their pledge to be corruption-free.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sibu branch officer Anan Swanlerd Eh Deng, who gave the advice, said the pledge was not something to be taken lightly.

“The pledge is not something that you can take today, but forget later on or do something against what you have vowed to do.

“It is not just a pledge that you do for yourself, but make it as a promise from you to God,” he told the 29 councillors and 53 staffers of KDC who had earlier taken the anti-corruption pledge in a ceremony held at the council’s office yesterday.

KDC deputy chairman Benjamin Angki Kaboy led the councillors in taking the pledge, while secretary Anthony Luta led staffers in taking theirs.

Anan represented MACC Sibu head Jutim Nyagam at the function.

Anthony, who spoke earlier, said it was important for KDC as the implementer of government’s policies and programmes to enhance its commitments towards its duty and responsibility.
