Rugby clinic benefits primary school children

KUCHING: The rugby development clinic held at the Kuching and Sarawak school powerhouse SMK Agama Sheikh Othman Wahab (SHOAW) at SMK SHOAW rugby field on Wednesday has been very beneficial to 18 primary four and five students and two teachers from SK Empila, Kota Samarahan.

SK Empila teacher in charge of rugby Mohamad Syahril Ben said his students had learnt a lot from clinic conductor Zulkaranainhisham Sarbini who is also SHOAW head coach.

“The objectives of the clinic were to prepare my students for the next tournament, for the teachers to gain more coaching skills from Zulkaranainhisham and to strengthen the cooperation between both schools especially in rugby,” said Syahril who is also the advisor of the school rugby club.

Activities during the clinic included a briefing by SMK SHOAW senior assistant (co-curriculum) Annur Kiprawi, rugby clinic with SMK SHOAW U15 squad and a friendly match between SK Empila and SMK SHOAW U14 squad.

Zulkaranainhisham was very happy with the pro active approach taken by Mohd Syahril and hoped that such clinic would be continued to be held every year.

Also present was SK Empila senior assistant (co-curriculum) Bakerya Sedik.
