Two ex-convicts detained for armed robbery

KOTA KINABALU: Two ex-convicts were arrested by police after being involved in an armed robbery here recently.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the suspects, aged 28 and 31, were nabbed by police following an armed robbery at Asia City around 11.40pm on Nov 11.

“In the incident, the suspects robbed two men of their handphones, wallets, identification cards, ATM bank card and cash RM40.

“Following a police report by the victims, in their early 20s, and continuous investigation, police arrested one of the suspects at Kampung Air here on Tuesday.

“This led police to the second arrest the following day at Sinsuran,” he said yesterday.

Police also recovered several items such as the folded knife believed used in the robbery, a handphone, a wallet, ATM bank cards, identification cards and personal documents of the victims.

Chandra added that both suspects were tested positive of drug and record showed they were former convicts with past criminal records.

The suspects have been detained to be investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and gang robbery, and Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
