PONTIANAK: A total of 20 Sarawak Travel partners are involved in a roadshow in Pontianak, Indonesia.

While in the city, they had the opportunity to network with over 40 member Indonesian agents and present their packages at Mercure Pontianak Hotel.

“Some were surprised to know that Xpress Air made direct flights to Kuching via Pontianak, which shows how necessary these sessions are to keep everyone on the same page,” STB marketing manager for Asean, Gustino Basuan said in a press statement yesterday.

“These product updates and networking sessions are part of our trade initiative to encourage business collaboration between Sarawak and her Indonesian travel partners. It was aimed at increasing awareness among Indonesian travellers of Sarawak’s leisure, shopping, medical, education and travel destinations,” he added.

It was also revealed in the statement that on Thursday, the Travel partners had a similar session at AyolaTasneem Boutique Convention Hotel in Jogjakarta where the number of Indonesian partners’ attending exceeded STB’s target.

“The number of Jogjakarta partners attending our business networking session was overwhelming and their need for information on Sarawak was encouraging,” added the statement.

Over the weekend, a Sarawak Expo, which is a consumer-focused event, will be taking place at Ayani Mega Mall in Pontianak from Nov 8 -19.

The last time the Sarawak Expo was held in Pontianak was in 2015 in association with the 1Malaysia Megasale project by Tourism Malaysia.

This year’s expo is estimated to attract 40,000 visitors over the 2-day period, giving them opportunity to sample tourist products across the border.

Sarawak delegates include AirAsia Berhad, Straits Central Travel & Tour Agencies, Tune Hotel Waterfront Kuching and Timberland Medical Centre as well as Paradesa Borneo, Borneo Medical Centre and International College of Advanced Technology (ICATS).

Earlier the delegates attended a briefing on AirAsia and Express Air’s new routes with their Indonesian counterparts.
