BINTULU: A total of 264 pupils from SK Desa Lavang Bintulu, SK Rh Tayai Tatau and SK Long Segaham Belaga received uniforms, schools bags, shoes and stationery under the Rotary Club of Bintulu Central (RCBC) ‘Back to School 2018’ project.

The project was held in collaboration with Yayasan Sime Darby and Rotary Club of Kuching Central.

According to the organising chairperson Linnie Lee, the project aimed at providing basic back-to-school needs for primary school students especially those in rural areas.

The presentation ceremony was held on Nov 13 at SK Desa Lavang, which was attended by representatives from Yayasan Sime Darby Muzdalifah Mohd Nasir, Irwan Fikri Hamzah and Farah Hani Khalid from Kuala Lumpur.

Rotary Club of Kuching Central was represented by its president Benjamin Lo and other Rotarians.

Lee said similar deliveries had been completed for SK Rh Tayai, Tatau on Nov 15 and SK Long Segaham, Belaga on Nov 18.

“Priority was given to rural schools because the primary education is essential for setting a good foundation for children’s further development.

“Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself, let’s start impacting lives by what we give, and let’s start from our community,” said Lee.

At the same time, she extended her appreciation to the sponsors – Grandpine Capital Sdn Bhd for donating dictionaries and English reading books and Popular Corner Food Centre for contributing net balls, footballs, handballs and net.
