KUCHING: The state government will source for funds to assist Mission schools in Sarawak.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Mission schools have contributed greatly to the state.
“Having benefited many graduates by providing quality education and facilities, Mission schools need funds to be upgraded and the government’s assistance to solve their existing problems,” said Uggah
when presenting grants totalling RM1.97 million from the state and federal governments to Tadika St Faith, St Margaret’s Church, Borneo Evangelical Mission, The Roman Catholic Church, and the Association of Churches in Sarawak yesterday.
The grants were allocated through the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor).
“We hope with this assistance, the people will see the role of Unifor and it is also a reflection of the government’s inclusiveness policy to make sure issues and problems of all religions in Sarawak are being looked after by the government of Sarawak,” Uggah stressed.
He pointed out Sarawak is known for its racial and religious harmony.
“Racial harmony is important for the state to develop into a high income state in future. Some churches’ issues have been raised and conveyed to the government,” he said.
He said the government will listen to their problems and communicate with the related agencies to resolve the issues.
St Faith’s Church Vicar and Archdeacon of the Lower Southern Archdeaconry, the Venerable Nelson Ugas Bulang, thanked the state for the RM400,000 grant to support St Faith’s Kindergarten’s RM4.2 million building.
The building – consisting of 11 classrooms, a computer room and a staffroom – was completed last year and can accommodate 300 pupils.
