KUCHING: The family of the late Chung Soon Teck, 48, who was shot dead by Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) wants further and detailed explanation on the offence he allegedly committed.

One of Chung’s family members, who met the Indonesian consulate here yesterday, said the family only learned of the incident through social media after the body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital on Wednesday.

”We only want an explanation from the Indonesian authority with regards to the offences he is said to have committed to the extent that he was shot dead on the chest.

“As of now, all the things that we know came from social media and his friends who also went to Indonesia. So far, there is no official statement from Indonesia,” he said when met yesterday.

He also said no post-mortem was conducted on the body as no approval had been received from the police or the Indonesian government.

“The body is still at SGH and the post-mortem has not been done yet. We were told by the hospital that they have not received permission to do so from the police.

“A few police officers have told us that this matter is outside their jurisdiction because it involves two countries, and also requires the involvement of high-ranking police officers,” he added.

The Chung family is hoping that the Indonesian consulate here and the police could assist them.

“Meet us at least, and explain the real situation to us because it’s difficult for us to accept his death. He was a good person and was never involved in any drug trafficking activity,’ he added.

The victim, an auto salesperson and three friends were said to be in Indonesia for a vacation.

It was reported that the victim was shot dead trying to escape after being arrested by BNN personnel during a drug bust operation in Entikong (Indonesia) last Saturday,

Head of BNNP of West Kalimantan Province Brigadier General Pol Nasrullah was reported as saying that Chung was driving a four-wheel-drive alone carrying 3kg of syabu heading to Pontianak through the Entikong border.

“The suspect was brought together with the exhibits to Pontianak, but half way, there was a scuffle. To stop his attempt to escape the enforcement officers fired shots, killing him instantly.”

Nasrullah also said the suspect’s three Indonesian friends had been detained after being arrested separately.
