Five SESB personnel sustain burns

KOTA KINABALU: Five Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) personnel are reported to be in critical but stable condition after sustaining burns from a transformer at Wawasan Plaza here on Wednesday night.

Four of the victims, aged 25 to 65, have been awarded at the critical zone at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH I) for sustaining 30 to 90 per cent burns on their bodies, while a 56-year-old SESB employee only sustained 20 per cent burns on his body.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said he believed the incident happened when the victims were carrying out maintenance work at a  transformer at Menara MAA at Wawasan Plaza around 10.55pm on Nov 22.

An explosion occurred which resulted in a fire causing five SESB personnel to sustain burns on their respective bodies.

They were taken to the hospital and were reported to be in stable condition, he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sembulan Fire and Rescue station chief Sailin Jun said the station received a distress call at 10.57pm and managed to control the situation by 11.10pm.

“Five people sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital for further treatment,” he said, adding that police and SESB personnel were at the scene to carry out investigations.
