Student drowns in swimming pool

TAWAU: A Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) student drowned in a swimming pool during a family recreation at a tourism centre in Jalan Bukit Quoin Hill here yesterday.

Police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said staff at the centre jumped into the pool after being informed that Ashiraf Ayub, 17, had not surfaced since jumping into it.

They found the boy at the bottom of the pool.

The boy was then taken to the Balung Health Clinic  by the mother at about 11am and was confirmed dead by a medical officer, he said in a statement.

He said according to family members, Ashirah did not know how to swim.
