KUCHING: Persatuan Tenpin Boling Para Negeri Sarawak (PTBPNS) will be organising a bowling tournament at Megalanes, Emart Batu Kawa on Dec 3 to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

“Dec 3 has been proclaimed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year, the theme is ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all,” said PTBPNS president Dunstan Lim.

He said IDPD is aimed at promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

Besides the bowling tournament, the Paralimpiad 2016 and Para Asean 2017 athletes would also be competing against able-bodied bowlers for the prizes which would be divided into a few categories.

Lim is appealing to the corporate sector, government agencies and the general public to come forward to take part and support the initiatives of PTBPNS.

“It is a good time for corporate bodies and government agencies to fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objective while at the same time getting to know the disabled community better,” he added.

With the full support of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sarawak and UNICEF Malaysia who are co-organisers of the IDPD Sarawak, there will be a mini exhibition cum demonstration by various disabled persons’ organisations to inform members of the public about their services next to the bowling alleys.

A basic sign language class, reading games and teaching aids for those with learning difficulties, and information on web accessibility for the visually impaired are some of the highlights.

Members of the public can also expect to see and purchase many beautiful craft works and household utility items made by various disabled persons’ organisations.

A drawing and colouring contest for children with disabilities as well as those without disabilities will be one of fun-filled activities.

Persatuan Sukan dan Rekreasi Orang Kurang Upaya Negeri Sarawak (Pesron) will have a booth doing general classification of potential athletes for the respective sports.

PTBPNS extended its thanks to Megalanes Sarawak for the use of their premises and being always supportive of the efforts by the Para members.
