KUCHING: Sarawak State Library is inviting the public to come and visit the ‘What is Migrated Archives?’ exhibitions which will be held at the Sarawak State Library, State Records Repository and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri from Dec 14 to Jan 14, 2018 from 9am to 5pm.

The Migrated Archives is a substantial collection of documents which migrated to the United Kingdom on the eve of decolonisation, for storage in the archives of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) where they remained untouched until 2011.

After the perusal of a great many files, only those that were deemed to be of the greatest historical importance have been copied and lodged with the Sarawak State Library.

The Migrated Archives have been released in a series of tranches with the first becoming available to researchers in April 2012.

This exhibition will give the community an opportunity to explore and access the Migrated Archives collections for better understanding of history, from the start of the colonial period in 1946, through the turbulent period leading up to the formation of Malaysia.

The objective of this exhibition is to promote the historical context of the documents from Migrated Archives collection as the key element of an informed society and to assist the community in accessing the right information for better understanding of the history of this region.

The exhibition will show how archives play a vital part in documenting the history of Sarawak.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
