BINTULU: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) has urged the government to review the regional and housing allowances for civil servants in Sarawak and Sabah.

Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda said due to the increasing cost of living, it is high time for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak to give due consideration to review the two critical allowances which have not been reviewed for almost 20 years.

“There were changes and increment in the salary scheme and there is also a need for these two allowances to be reviewed to be at par with the cost of living.

“It must be reviewed and Cuepacs is open for negotiation with the federal government,” he said to reporters after delivering a talk to Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) members at a hotel here yesterday.

Cuepacs Sarawak president Ahmad Malie, who is also KGBS president, was also present.

Azih said Cuepacs also wants the government to give a salary increment incentive for civil servants by January 2018, as enjoyed by other state government servants, in addition to the annual increment in salary.

“We would like to thank the chief minister and Menteri Besar for their concern over the welfare of their state civil servants. We request the same for civil servants at the federal level because we don’t want any double standard on this matter,” he said.
