KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) nabbed four men believed to be members of the militant group Daesh in Sandakan, Sabah, on Monday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the suspects, aged between 31 and 40, were citizens of a neighbouring country.

“They used Sandakan as transit to southern Philippines. All four individuals were on the police’s wanted list; they are now being detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012,” he told a media conference after launching the Snatch Theft and Pickpocket Crime Prevention Campaign here yesterday.

Meanwhile, he said PDRM had stepped up their cooperation with the community, particularly non-governmental organisations, in an effort to reduce crime rate, particularly street crime such as snatch theft and pickpocketing.

“The national crime index shows a reduction of 13.5 per cent this year. Almost all the states recorded a lower crime rate except Sabah where it is slightly higher.

“In this regard, the cooperation between PDRM and NGOs will be continued and is very important to ensure that the community feel safe and less anxious while in town,” he said. — Bernama
