Concerted effort in conducting fire, chlorine leak drill

KUCHING: A fire and chlorine leak drill was conducted at Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant at 7.30pm on Dec 5 with cooperation from Fire and Rescue Department, Padawan District Police and Malaysian Defence Force (APM).

The training aimed to test the ability of Kuching Water Board, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia to address emergencies such as fire and leakage of chlorine.

The aspects tested during the training included communication pointers, rescue team action, traffic control movement, and fire extinguisher training by the ERT team.

The scenario that night was based on the existing risk in the water treatment plant.

In addition to the ERT members, community leaders in the plant area were invited to witness the drill.

Residents living at the premises of Batu Kitang Water Treatment plant were informed about the drill.

The training was to prepare all parties for unforeseen emergencies and situations.

The training was completed at 9.30pm.
