KAPIT: Road users here are annoyed that a telecommunications junction box has been installed at a bend at the T-junction of Jalan Airport and Jalan Padang.
According to them, the junction box is obstructing the view of oncoming traffic.
“This structure has been erected at the wrong spot, posing great hazards to smooth traffic flow. This is dangerous to road users and ‘inviting’ traffic accidents at any time,” complained councillor Jenny Yii Si Geok.
“I have received numerous calls and complaints from concerned road users, who want the structure to be removed. I can understand the worries of the road users, in particular those driving from Jalan Padang to Jalan Airport. It is a serious obstruction. One just can’t see any oncoming traffic until very close to the junction. This is too dangerous.”
She called on the owner of the junction box to move it to a less obtrusive location.
“Don’t wait till an accident happens. That could be very tragic,” Yii said.
She added the matter has been raised with the Kapit District Council.
She appealed to the Kapit Division Road Safety Council, Kapit Resident’s Office, Road Transport Department and traffic police to work together with the owner of the junction box.
