SAMARAHAN: Twelve fighters will slug it out at the Superfight Pro Samarahan Cup Muaythai Competition at The Summer Shopping Mall from Dec 15 to 16.

Starting 7pm on each day, the event will showcase six bouts between fighters from Thailand, Sibu, Samarahan, Lundu, Kuching, Miri and back-up squad from the Persatuan Muaythai Negeri Sarawak (PMNS).

The highlight of the two-day competition organised in conjunction with Sukan Sarawak (SukSar) is between Suphan Kaeosisaet of Thailand and Mohd Eswandy Hassan representing MTK Sarawak/PMNS Back-up in the 65kg on Saturday.

It is organised by PMNS together with Persatuan Muaythai Samarahan and The Summer Shopping Mall Samarahan with support from the Sarawak State Sports Council.

“This pro event is mainly aimed at exposing our fighters who are competing in SukSar from Dec 14-17 to pro fights and further promoting the sport in Sarawak,” said PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim yesterday. “It is a boost to our young fighters as they get to learn more about the techniques and skills from the pro fighters.

“This will be the sixth and final major event on the PMNS calendar for this year,” he added.

Other events organised this year included Piala Borneo, Piala MMNS, Lundu, Bau and UiTM.

“We did not organise the Chief Minister Cup this year with due respect to the passing of former chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“With the support from the State government and the corporate sector, PMNS are hoping to organise more competitions next year to give more exposure to our fighters, especially those who will be competing in Sukma XIX in Perak in September,” said Jumaat.

He also took the opportunity to extend PMNS’ appreciation to Persatuan Muaythai Samarahan president Azamani Mohamad and The Summer Shopping Mall management as well as the Sarawak State Sports Council for supporting the Superfight Pro Samarahan Cup Muaythai Competition.
