KUCHING: Motorists and visitors are advised to take note of the new traffic flow, temporary parking area, and new pick up/drop-off lobbies at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) starting today (Dec 15) due to construction works to upgrade the hospital.

Asaljuru Weida Sdn Bhd, the concessionaire of the project, said the Ministry of Health Malaysia is in the midst of upgrading SGH in order to provide better facilities and services to the people of Sarawak.

For those visiting SGH, it said that from today (Dec 15) onwards, a temporary carpark located at Jalan Medan Temple (facing Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce) will be open and made available to the public for free from 6am to 6pm.

From today onwards, all main public carparks within SGH (in front of Klinik Pakar, main entrance of SGH, JKNS block and Blood Bank block) will be closed for construction purposes. Vehicle owners may park at the temporary carpark at Jalan Medan Temple.

From next Tuesday (Dec 19) onwards, the main entrance to SGH via Jalan Hospital and the main SGH lobby will also be closed for construction purposes.

However, there will be a new access at Jalan Hospital for ambulances and emergency cases only (Gate C).

“Hospital-goers who need to drop off/pick up passengers or patients will have to do so at Lobby A (Klinik Pakar lobby), which can be accessed via Gate A or E.

“Another drop off/pick up point is at Lobby B (In-Patient Block Lobby), which can be accessed via Gate B only. Mothers in labour shall be dropped off at the Emergency & Trauma lobby via Gate C.”

Also from next Tuesday onwards, there will be a change of traffic flow within SGH.

The lane facing Klinik Pakar will be turned into a one-way lane out to Jalan Hospital via Gate D to ease the traffic flow. Gate D is for exiting only.

Workers put up a banner informing the closure of the main lobby at SGH.
