Northern region Chinese schools receive RM1.8 mln aid

MIRI: A total of 20 Chinese schools in the northern region of Sarawak received special allocations from the federal education ministry amounting to RM1.8 million yesterday.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian presented the cheques during the ‘2017 SJKC and SMJK Special Allocations Cheque Presentation Ceremony’ at SJKC Chung Hua Krokop’s multimedia room.

The only Chinese secondary school to receive the special allocation this year was SMJK Chung Hua, Miri with RM200,000. The rest of the recipients were primary schools. Chinese primary schools under the education office of respective districts (PPD) such as Miri, Subis, Limbang, Lawas and Baram received aid totalling RM880,000.

For Miri district the seven recipients were SJKC Chung Hua primary school in Miri, Krokop, Lutong, Pujut, Bakam, Tudan and Chung San Miri.

For Baram, the schools were SJKC Chung Hua Marudi, SJKC Kee Tee Long Lama and SJKC Hua Nam Marudi.

Four recipients under PPD Subis were SJKC Chung Hua Sibuti, SJKC Chee Mung Batu Niah, SJKC Chin Nam Subis and SJKC Chung Hua Sungai Lumut.

Two schools were from PPD Limbang – SJKC Chung Hwa Limbang and SJKC Yuk Hin also benefited.

PPD Lawas saw allocation for three schools, namely SJKC Chung Hua Trusan, SJKC Chung Hwa Lawas and SJKC Soon Hwa Sundar.

Also present were member of parliament for Sibuti  Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri mayor Adam Yii, SUPP Senadin branch publicity chief Eric Chin and chairman of Miri Limbang District Chinese Aided Primary Schools Board Penghulu Haw Min Wai.
