MIRI: The Immigration Department will continue to enhance existing efforts towards safeguarding national security.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali believes that close cooperation between the department and various agencies including the media should help tremendously in tackling security issues in the country.

He made these remarks at the start of a badminton friendly tournament, hosted by Miri Division Immigration Department, at the King Sports Centre in Senadin here yesterday.

On the friendly competition, he wanted this event to be conducted on annual basis.

“If we could not make it an annual event for the Immigration Department, perhaps this event could be hosted by the participating agencies on rotational basis. By doing this, we would be able to foster smart and closer partnership with various agencies.”

More than 40 shuttlers took part in the tournament, representing the Immigration Department itself, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), General Operations Force, Miri District police headquarters, Miri Prisons Department, as well as the local media.

State Immigration Department director Ken Leben and his deputy Hamfatullah Syawal Hamdan were also present.
