39,231 pupils to enter Year One in Sarawak next year

KUCHING: A total of 39,231 students will enter Year One in Sarawak for next year’s school term which will commence on Jan 2.

Sarawak Education Department director Rakayah Madon in a statement today said that they were among 240,676 pupils to attend the 2018 school term at 1,265 primary schools in the state, besides 23,164 others who would enter preschool.

At the secondary level, she said, a total of 200,100 students would continue their schooling year in the transitional class up to the upper sixth form at 190 schools statewide.

“The lower sixth students will start their schooling session in May and a total of 75 schools in the state are offering Form Six education in Science and Social Science streams,” she said.

Rakayah said there were 1,497 pre-school classes established at 1,115 educational institutions in Sarawak

It comprises 1,321 classes at national schools (SK), 159 at national-type schools (SJK), two at national secondary schools (SMK); four at Teacher Education Institutes (IPG), seven at government-aided religious school (SABK) and four at special education national schools (SKPK),” she said. – Bernama
