MIRI: The people here are reminded to continue helping one another, especially the less-fortunate members in the community.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who officiated at the presentation of school aid to orphans at Gymkhana Club of Miri (KGM) yesterday, said such effort is vital for the wellbeing of the community.

“It is great to see the people in the city responding positively to the government’s call to develop a caring society. Thus, I hope the people would continue to give their helping hand to those in need,” he said.

Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, pointed out that voluntary welfare or humanitarian assistance could come in many forms, either as cash, donations of goods and work parties.

At the function, he praised the Muslim Orphans Welfare Association (Perkaya) of Miri for initiating the good move to help orphans prepare for the new school term.

On behalf the association, Lee presented aid in the form of RM250 cash to each of the 160 orphans. Also present was Perkaya Miri chairman Imran Abdul Hamid.
