BINTULU: The Resident and District Office (R&DO) here will implement the Resident Office Geomatic Information System (Regis) this year in line with the state government’s call to embrace digital technology.

Acting Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Luat said with the system,  the R&DO could provide certain crucial information and data to be shared among certain agencies.

He said this during the inter-agency networking programme and the taking of corruption-free pledge by 180 civil servants here yesterday.

With the system, Bintulu R&DO will be the second state government administrative organisation to utilise the system after Mukah Resident Office.

Jack said people were now living and working in an open source era where everyone and everything was connected.

“Thus, we must change the way we give our service to be more effective. Customers are now more particular about how they are being treated and served.

“The direction that Sarawak must take now is through digital economy as emphasised by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.”

He added that Bintulu had all the basic facilities, but there’s a need to provide access for high speed internet connectivity. With electricity sourced from Bakun and Murum dams, Bintulu, also the centre of  Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), could become a cyber hub.

“This is made even more possible with the presence of the heavy industries in Samalaju and Kidurong.”

Earlier, he called on all heads of government departments to add value to their performance, in line with the aspiration and vision to transform Bintulu.

“I hope we can carry out our responsibilities that have been entrusted to us with more passion, integrity, and respect.”

On the corruption-free pledge, Jack said it was a voluntary promise and pledge by the staff in their personal capacity to be more responsible in carrying out their duties.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, Malaysian LNG group chief executive officer Pau Kiew Huai, deputy resident Hamdiah Bakir, MACC Miri chief Supt Ayahtollah Abdullah, Sebauh and Tatau district officers, and heads of government departments were also present.
