KUCHING: PJ Rangers winger Tommy Mawat Bala is thankful and glad to be back in the national U23 squad after being dropped during the World Cup Asian qualifying in Thailand and the SEA Games Project last year.

He was given a second chance to don the national jersey for this week’s AFC Cup U23 championship in Jiangsu, China.

“I am very happy and thankful to be roped into the national U23 team again after being dropped in 2017,” he said.

Tommy is also hoping for regular starting spot in the squad. They will face Iraq in Group C opener before meeting Jordan on Jan 13 and Saudi Arabia on Jan 16.

According to him, the players have to adapt to the cold weather in China.

“We managed to adapt to the weather conditions in Jiangsu

and hope that there will be no problem after this,” he said, adding that he is looking forward to do his best and help Malaysia win matches.

The former Croc is also hoping to return home with a better achievement prior to the AFC Cup.
