114 Border Regiment recruits complete 17-week rifleman course

MIRI: A total of 114 recruits from three battalions of the Border Regiment have completed a 17-week rifleman course at the National Service Training Programme Camp at Sungai Rait, near here yesterday.

The recruits, from battalions 6 to 8, had participated in the Rifleman Class 1 course which aimed to improve mental and physical strength through various physical training, enhance basic military knowledge in various fields, train each member on the duties of a rifleman, and to give early exposure to members on the operational task in an infantry battalion.

Battalion 8 Border Regiment (RS8) commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Shamsul Bahari Che Soh said the course is mandatory for all recruits who have completed their Rifleman Class 2 course.

“This is an obligatory course for salary increment to Band 3, and I hope the recruits will utilise the knowledge they have acquired throughout the course in their pursuit to further develop their career and have a positive mind-set,” he said during the closing parade.

Shamsul also called on recruits to work as a team and to always uphold the good name of the regiment.

“You must be committed, maintain high discipline and be responsible in every task given to you with the highest integrity just like any other military personnel.”

Mohd Amir Amirul Zamzuri was awarded best overall student while Amirul Asyraf Mohd Rosejati for best marching and Mohd Akmal Asraff Samsudin, best academic.

Larison Jantan Joseph, meanwhile, was promoted from a private to lance corporal.
