Duo charged over syabu

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were separately charged at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to posssessing 0.20grams of syabu.

Filipino Alan Zaidin, 20, and Silver Sylvester, 53, who appeared before senior court registrar Pitrus Lee, were charged under Section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The indictment is punishable by a fine of up to RM100,000 or a maximum jail of two years or both, upon conviction.

Alan was caught at a squatter houses in Penampang at 1.30pm on January 13 while Silver was arrested at an unnumbered house at Kampung Kolo-Kolo, Pantai Sidion in Putatan at 3.10pm on January 14.

The court fixed February 21 and 19, respectively to re-mention their cases.

Alan was denied bail while Silver was released on RM2,000 bail with two local sureties.

Alan was also charged with consuming syabu and entering the State illegally.

He was arrested for allegedly committing the offences at Penampang police station and at a squatter house in Penampang, respectively, on January 13.

These two cases will be mentioned on February 19 and January 22.

In a separate case, Erah Abdul Elit, 22, was charged with entering Sabah illegally.

The accused, a Filuipina had allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Lapan Belas here at 12.25pm on January 11.

The court set January 22 to re-mention the case and the accused will be further detained in custody, pending disposal of the case.

No plea was recorded from all the accused persons yesterday.
