KUALA LUMPUR: Former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was yesterday reminded not to issue any statement to the media regarding his suit against former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim concerning the alleged claim of a secret pact involving himself and DAP adviser, Lim Kit Siang.

High Court Judge Datuk Nordin Hassan issued the reminder following the statement by lawyer Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos, representing Tunku Abdul Aziz, who informed the court that Mukhriz had made a statement to the media after giving a statement at the trial on his summons case on Jan 11.

“I wish to remind the witness and anyone involved against making any media statement concerning the case as it is still ongoing,” the judge said after Mukhriz, who is also the deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), had concluded giving his statement on the second day of the case.

Earlier Mukhriz, 53, who was continuing his statement, said he did not agree with the proposal by lawyer Jahaberdeen  that the media statement made by him (Mukhriz) to deny the allegation by the defendant (Tunku Abdul Aziz) was merely a gimmick.

Questioned by Jahaberdeen on his career as an UMNO politician which was said to be not outstanding, Mukhriz said “There were ups and downs…I don’t think my political career in UMNO was not outstanding because it was normal in a contest that there were winners and losers.

The proceedings will continue on Feb 27 and PPBM chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to give his statement as his son’s second witness.

On Feb 7 2017, Mukhriz  who is also the State Assemblyman for Ayer Hitam, Kedah had filed a suit alleging that on Dec 30, 2016, the defendant had issued a statement titled ‘Memang Wujud Pakatan Sulit antara Tun Mahathir dan Kit Siang’ (There Was Certainly A Secret Pact Between Tun Mahathir and Kit Siang) which was reported in the blog AIDCNews. — Bernama
