KUCHING: A mechanic was slapped with a RM800-fine in default three months’ jail for giving false information to the police.
Awang Izan Awang Aming, 38, from Kampung Tabuan Ulu, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
The complainant said he received a kidnap case alert phone call from Tabuan Jaya police station while doing a crime prevention patrol with a colleague about 2.30am on Oct 7 last year. The call said there was a kidnap case in Tabuan Foochow.
They went to the location, and there they were told by Awang Izan that his wife and nine-year-old daughter were being kidnapped by a man wearing mask and armed with a machete at their house at Kampung Tabuan Ulu.
The police, however, found out that the wife and daughter were actually staying with his mother-in-law.
