KUCHING: The 31st Border Bridgade will continue to ensure top security at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border First Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw said the present strength of the 31st Border Brigade is about 25 per cent and that they would recruit more personnel later to increase their presence at the border.

“We are also doing transfer exercise by bringing several senior officers from the 30th Border Brigade in Peninsular Malaysia to come here,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) at his office, here yesterday.

He added there would be another 12 border posts to be created in the near future, and this would call for the recruitment of more manpower.

Additionally, he said two Forward Operational Bases (FoBs) would also be created for logistic purposes to support the border posts.

“The two FoBs will be based at Bakun and Mabong (in Kapit). Two or more (FoBs) will be coming up in the future.”

Mundaw also said the military is working closely with other government agencies such as the Immigration Department, Customs Department, police and Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism.

“We have our roles to play, so too these other agencies. We complement each other.”

He said at the moment, there is no need to create more brigades as the present strength of the 31st Border Brigade is enough to safeguard the Sarawak-Kalimantan border.
