KPDNKK made 9,060 seizures worth more than RM31m last year

NILAI: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) recorded 9,060 cases involving various offences with seizures worth RM31.02 million last year.

KPDNKK enforcement division director Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said from the total, there were 284 cases on smuggling of subsidised goods valued at RM4.12 million.

“With these successes, the ministry saved the country’s revenue in terms of subsidy for controlled goods,” he told reporters after a programme to dispose of seized goods at KPDNKK store here yesterday.

He said there were 94 cases of offences under the Copyright Act 1987 with seizures worth RM1.37 million and 1,454 cases of the confiscation under the Trade Description Act 2011 amounting to RM15.45 million.

“The enforcement division also contributed to the protection of intellectual property rights under the Copyright Act 1987, Trade Description Act 2011 and the Optical Discs Act 2000 to ensure intellectual property rights are protected from counterfeit and fake goods manufacturers.

Meanwhile in Lahad  Datu, the KPDNKK office here recorded 59 cases of goods seizures amounting to RM42,953.80 last year.

Its head, Rino Hisham Abu Bakar said the highest seizure involved offences under the Price Control and  Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 in 23 cases valued at RM8,685.25.

“This is followed by seizures under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 with 16 cases valued at RM27,746.05 as well as the Weights and Measures Act 1972 in 16 cases (RM1,970.50),” he said in a statement here yesterday. — Bernama
