SARIKEI: The Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat (People’s Outreach Sales) will provide certain goods at subsidised prices.

During a working committee meeting for the programme here yesterday, Teng Ung Woo – a political secretary to the Chief Minister – said 30 items, mainly daily necessities, have been listed under the programme.

The items include five types of fish, 10 types of vegetables, processed foods, controlled items, standard chicken, and grade C eggs.

Two supermarkets in the division have been selected for the programme – Doremon Supermarket in Sarikei and G Mark in Bintangor.

Teng said the government has allocated RM120 million to subsidise the prices of the 30 items to lighten the burden of the people, particularly the low income group.

He called on the committee to ensure the government’s new initiative could be implemented as soon as possible.

Among those who attended the meeting chaired by Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Sarikei chief Tarmizi Mohd Amin were Amin Pata from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Mohammad Hazemi from the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia, and programme co-ordinator Boll Kassim.

The programme will be implemented in all 222 parliamentary constituencies nationwide until June.
