PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are investigating a 2:38 minute video that had gone viral in social media, of foreigners being given identity cards.

MCMC chief operating officer Datuk Dr Mazlan Ismail in a statement yesterday said the agency had received complaints about the video and was investigating the case with the assistance of PDRM.

He said MCMC took the matter seriously and would take action against the culprits.

Transmitting any communication deemed vexatious to others is an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Meanwhile, Mazlan cautioned the public against sharing, circulating or uploading any form of content from the Internet, that had not been verified. — Bernama
