KUCHING: The recently concluded 45th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship in Miri was a pleasant surprise for Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) as they found themselves in a partnership with Limbang Amateur Swimming Association (Lasa) to emerge as the overall champion.

In a statement yesterday, the club was thankful to the Sarawak Sports Council (SSC) for allowing their swimmers to use part of the facilities at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre for their training.

“This will give us motivation and spur us further forward and dare us to have bigger dreams,” said PASC secretary Julie Tan.

The club fielded 18 swimmers (mostly in the lower age groups) to join Lasa’s 36 swimmers to capture the SAG title with 42 gold, 35 silver and 36 bronze for a total of 113 medals.

“The opportunity to have access to proper professional coaching and good facilities are two very important factors for the development of any athletes,” Tan added while stressing that not only swimming associations but swimming clubs could also produce good swimmers.

The club also highlighted the outstanding performances of Dylan Leong and Janice Tan who created five out of six new records during the championship. Leong and Tan also won the best boy and best girl awards for Group E (eight years and below) respectively.

Others who performed well included Bibienne Ong (7 gold in Group D), Nathan Tan (3 gold in Group C), Casper Tan, Cayden Mineve Chin, Ong Chuan Yen, Ong Zong Lian, Dalysha Teo, Darren Leong, Julius Abbas and Sara Tham.
