LAHAD DATU: The Wildlife Department here reminded the public to be extra careful with crocodiles, especially during floods.

Lahad Datu Wildlife Department officer Sylvester Saimin said the threats of habitat destruction and lack of food sources would cause these animals to frequently appear in residential areas.

He said despite regular monitoring and efforts to prevent this animal from entering residential areas, natural factors could not be avoided.

“Therefore, the public should be cautious, especially during floods to avoid any untoward incident.

“The public can also contact us at 089-863736 if they find crocodiles at their surrounding areas,” he said, when contacted yesterday.

Sylvester issued the warning following the sighting of crocodiles at several areas in Lahad Datu that were hit by flash floods on Tuesday night.
