KAPIT: Coffee shop operators here are reminded to keep their premises clean and observe the Kapit District Council (KDC) by-laws.
Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat gave this reminder when speaking at the 41st anniversary and pre-Chinese New Year dinner of the Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association (KCROA) at a restaurant here on Tuesday.
“You should not forget the hygienic aspect of your business. Keep your premises clean and provide quality service to your customers. Please cooperate and work closely with the local council to make sure the by-laws are fully complied with to maintain the highest standard of hygiene,” he said.
He also said he was glad to note that coffee shops here are a popular place for people to meet up and socialise, which had greatly contributed to the racial and religious harmony among the people and visitors.
“It is common here to see people sitting together enjoying the conversation and companionship. When we interact and sit together, we understand and tolerate each other better,” added Jamit.
At the same time, he reminded that the 14th general election was very near and informed that incumbent Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi would be defending the Kapit parliamentary seat for Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Nanta is our choice of candidate. His track record speaks louder than words. He has proven that he is capable, dynamic and committed to serve the Kapit communities. Especially the past six or seven years, he implemented various big and small projects in Kapit for the benefit of all of us.
“Under him, besides the longhouses and villages, the Chinese associations and non-governmental organisations also received financial assistance regularly from him to carry out their activities, for instance the Dewan Serbaguna Foochow along Jalan Selirik, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Cina Bletih, the funeral parlour of Tai San Ten Association and so on,” Jamit pointed out.
As such, he reminded the people to give Nanta their full support in the election.
“We want Nanta to win with big majority. He is now the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development. What we hope for is that with a big majority, he will be elevated to a full minister so that he can do more for us,” Jamit said.
Later, he announced a government grant of RM10,000 for the Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association. Present was Nanta, who officiated at the function.
Among the some 200 people attending the gathering were Malaysia-Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors General Merchants Association president Ho Su Mong, Sarawak Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association chairman Hii Hung Yii, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd Customer and Trade Relations manager Cheak Tut Wing and KCROA chairman Ma Tian Ho.
