ASEAN folklore storytelling competition is open for participation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In an effort to promote and highlight ASEAN countries’ folklore especially to the younger generation, the Language and Literature Bureau, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, will organise the ASEAN Folklore Storytelling Competition 2018 for the very first time. This was stated by Dayang Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, the Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau during an interview with RTB. According to Dayang Hajah Sariani, the competition is one the Language and Literature Bureau’s initiatives and commitment in together promoting Bandar Seri Begawan as the ASEAN City of Culture, as declared during the 13th ASEAN Senior Officers Meeting Responsible for Culture and Arts and Related Meetings, brudirect.com reported.

The competition is open to citizens and permanent residents in the country, especially for children and students aged between 8 to 12 years old. The competition will be divided into 2 categories namely Storytelling in Malay Language and English Language. Dayang Hajah Sariani added that the competition is aimed to answer the call made by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the importance as well as in encouraging the community to be knowledgeable specifically in programmes to develop the country.

The closing date for the competition is on the 28th of this month. For more information, call di 2235501. The qualifying rounds will be held in April at the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas, while the final will take place in May.
