MARUDI: A total of eight Baram primary schools remained closed yesterday due to flooding.

They were SK Long Sobeng, SK Benawa, SK Penghulu Baya Malang, SK Long Loyang, SK Long Jegan, SK Sungai Bong, SK Long Bemang, and SK Kuala Bok.

Baram education officer Juk Ipoi, who visited the schools by boat on Thursday, said at SK Long Sobeng, pupils were sent back to their respective longhouses on Tuesday.

The school has 34 pupils, 10 teachers, and 11 non-teaching staff.

SK Long Sobeng senior assistant Nelson Subom said the water level at the administrative block was one-and-a-half metre deep, while at classrooms, hostel, dining hall and kitchen, teachers’ quarters, and football field the flood level was around one metre.

He said although the water had subsided, areas around the school were still waterlogged and teachers and staff were still putting up temporarily at Long Sobeng longhouse.

The Baram schools that were open yesterday were SK Long Linei, SK Long Atip, SK Pengarah Enteri, SK Batu Bungan, SK Long Teru, and SK Long Panai.
