More flood victims returning home

SIBU: Many of the flood victims in Selangau have left the relief centres to return to their houses, following improvement in the situation.

In addition, one of the four centres there – the one at Sekuau Community Hall – was closed on Tuesday.

According to a report from the Civil Defence Force (APM) Sibu yesterday, there were 900 victims still taking shelter at the other three centres.

“There are still 382 victims at the evacuation centre in SJKC Tong Ah, including three (people) who have just arrived.

“At the multi-purpose hall in Selangau, 205 people remain while at the centre in SK Bukit Arip, there are still 313, of whom 18 have just arrived,” APM said.

The relief centre at SJKC Cheng Hua in in Kanowit records nine new arrivals, making the total of flood victims taking shelter there to 263.
