Curtin Malaysia commited to excellence in education

MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) reiterated its commitment to excellence in education and providing opportunities for students to be the best they can be and ultimately achieve their goals in life.

The courses which are identical to those at Curtin University’s main campus in Perth are applied, innovative and relevant to the world, enabling graduates to become highly competent industry professionals and successful global citizens.

“As Curtin University’s largest international campus and hub in Asia, as well as one of the largest and fastest growing foreign branch campuses in the world, we are widely recognised for the practical and applied nature of our courses and are deeply committed to ensuring they are relevant to industry and societal needs. The same goes for our research, which focuses on solving real world problems,” said Curtin Malaysia pro vice-chancellor, president and chief executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski in press statement yesterday.

He added that learning and teaching excellence is the foundation of the quality education Curtin provides, where lecturers create an engaging and learner-focused environment for students. This includes applying the latest in education technologies and pedagogies.

“At Curtin Malaysia, we develop students into knowledge creators, critical thinkers, effective communicators and responsible leaders through a holistic curriculum that influences life in and outside the classroom. Quality and innovation are the key to the design, delivery and assessment of each individual course,” Mienczakowski said.

For example, he said the Faculty of Engineering and Science ensures that students get an industry-connected educational experience that provides solutions to challenges faced by the global engineering and scientific communities.

Meanwhile, all three faculties – Engineering, Business and Humanities offer intensive and focussed one-year foundation courses that prepare students for undergraduate study in their chosen fields.

This year, the university launched new courses – Bachelor of Arts (Construction Management), Bachelor of Science (Computing) with streams in Software Engineering and Cyber Security, Bachelor of Commerce (Management and Human Resources), and Master of Arts (Journalism).

Curtin Malaysia offers many undergraduate courses in subject areas in which Curtin University has achieved world rankings under the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017.

Curtin University is currently ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide in the highly regarded Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2017. Last November, Curtin Malaysia retained its Tier 5 or ‘Excellent’ rating for the fourth consecutive time under Malaysia’s Rating System for Higher Education Institutions (Setara 2017), affirming its commitment to quality education

Various scholarships for deserving Malaysian and international students enable students from all backgrounds to realise their potential and achieve their ambitions. Among them were Curtin Malaysia Merit Scholarships for new foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students, Pro Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships specifically for international students, and other internal and industry-sponsored scholarships.

With some 4,000 students from over 50 countries, Curtin Malaysia offers students a truly international and cross-cultural learning environment. It has a dedicated Department of University Life that strives to take care of each individual from point of entry until graduation, and be part of Curtin’s diverse alumni network.

Meanwhile Curtin Malaysia’s intake for the first semester is now in progress with classes for undergraduate programmes commencing on Feb 28 and foundation programmes on March 26.
