KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has called on ‘all ex-SUPP members’ to rejoin the party and unite for the coming general election.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the preparation for SUPP’s Chinese New Year Open House at the party’s headquarters here recently, he said everyone is welcome to join or re-join the party as long as they are sincere.

“All (ex-members) are welcome to come back to SUPP. We also welcome new people to join our party. Those with a sincere heart are more than welcome to come home.”

Although Dr Sim did not go into specifics, his invitation to ‘come home’ is believed to be for members of United People’s Party (UPP), including its elected representatives.

He said he hoped that the former party members would come to SUPP’s Open House on Friday last week, which was expected to be attended by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and other dignitaries.

On his call for new members, he said it was important for any party to have new blood to prepare to take over from older faces.

“Soon I will retire and let new people lead and do the work. We need people (to be ready) to replace us because three quarters of the party’s leaders will be retiring in 10 years.”

SUPP’s CNY Open House was  held on Friday from 9am to 5pm.
