KOTA KINABALU: A 27-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly offering RM1,200 to a policeman after she was caught for a drunk driving offence.

The Sarawakian, who operates a shop at a mall here, was ordered to be remanded for four days by Magistrate Afiq Agoes after she was brought to court by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Mohd Faliq Basiruddin said that the woman is being investigated for offering a bribe to a policeman to avoid action against her for an offence of driving under the influence of alcohol at about 4am on Sunday.

It was learned that the woman, who was heading home after a Saturday night out with friends, was stopped at a roadblock by police near the Centrepoint Complex here at around 4am.

She was taken to the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters in Karamunsing here where she allegedly offered the bribe to an assistant superintendent of police.

She was immediately arrested and the case was referred to the MACC for further action.
