‘Motorcycle ops’ sees 606 summonses issued statewide

JPJ officers conduct checks on motorcycles and motorcyclists during the operation.

KUCHING: A total of 606 summonses have been issued through ‘Ops Khas Motosikal’ held from Feb 14-18 in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

According to reports from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, the summonses were issued for various offences detected during the operation held throughout the state.

The most common offence involved motorcyclists not carrying his or her Competent Driver’s Licence (CDL) with 238 summonses issued, followed by expired Motor Vehicle Licence (MVL) at 95; no registration number (81); expired CDL (60); not displaying ‘P’ sign (60); not covered by insurance (17); side mirrors (12); tyres (11); no MVL (3); expired Probationary Driving Licence (3) and other offences (175).

During the operation, a total of 4,970 motorcycles were checked and 754 of these motorcycles were subjected to action.

In addition, nine motorcycles were also seized and 33 notices were issued for certain offences.

The operation involved 566 JPJ personnel in collaboration with 80 police officers, 87 Immigration Department officers, 87 National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) staff, and other agencies.
