Entries open for Sarawak Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship

KUCHING: Entries are now open for the inaugural Sarawak Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship which will be held at Damai Golf & Country Club (DGCC) from March 20 to 22.

In announcing this, DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh said the three-day event is the first of its kind organised at the club and is expected to attract participants from throughout the state.

According to him, the event is divided into Boys and Girls categories where the participants are competing in the various divisions including Boys Special (Age 18-21 with handicap 16.8 or lower), Boys A (Age 15-17 with handicap 16.8 or lower) Boys B (Age 13-14 with handicap 22.3 or lower), Boys C (Age 11-12 and open to all handicaps) and Boys D (Age 10 and below with all handicaps).

For the Girls category, the participants will be divided into Girls Special (Age 18-21 with handicap 17.7 or lower), Girls A (Age 15-17 with handicap 17.7 or lower) Girls B (Age 13-14 with handicap 29.2 or lower), Girls C (Age 11-12 and open to all handicaps) and Boys D (Age 10 and below with all handicaps).

Sanctioned by the Sarawak Golf Association (SGA), the closing date for entries is March 13 and those interested can submit their entries at the clubhouse which can be contacted at 082-846088.

Meanwhile, a friendly golf tournament between Sarawak Economic Development (SEDC) and Pahang Economic Development Corporation (PKNP) was held recently at DGCC as part of the visitors’ itinerary to the state.

SEDC team was led by its chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husin while PKNP was led by the deputy chief executive Dato Sri Ahmad Sabri Husin.

During their stay here, the visitors went to places of interest including the Sarawak Cultural Village and Damai Central.

Apart from promoting cordial relations between SEDC and PKNP, the event is also aimed at creating better understanding among the two state government agencies which are expected to be working closely together in the near future for mutual benefits.

In the friendly tournament, Badli Safar emerged the champion after edging Roslan Mohd Salleh with 37 Stableford points on count back (OCB) followed by SEDC deputy general manager Edwin Abit and Zekaria Hussaini in third and fourth placing respectively.
