KOTA BELUD: A teacher from Kampung Tamalang, here got himself into trouble with the law after a photo of him holding an airgun was posted in ‘1StopBorneo Wildlife’ Facebook.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the 33-year-old man had been detained to be investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

“The photo shows a man holding the airgun at Kampung Sangkir for bird hunting activity.

“Investigation was immediately carried out and we managed to identify the suspect and the latter then brought police to a bush at Kampung Tamalang where he hid the airgun,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zaidi said police investigation revealed the airgun was bought from an online site together with its pallets.

Zaidi therefore remind the public not to own or purchase unlicensed airgun as it is against the law.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a tourist from China died while snorkelling at Pulan Mantanani on Friday.
