KUNAK: The district police seized two home-made guns locally known as Bakakuk, and nine air guns hidden under oil palm leaves at Sime Darby Plantation, yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Baharin Md Tahir during a press conference said the seizure was made during its Sea Hunter Operation led by ASP Samsuri Bin Anwar at 4.15am.
Baharin said an inspection at the area found two Bakakuk covered under oil palm leaves.
He said initial investigation revealed that the weapons were discovered without its owner(s) and no finger prints were found on the weapons.
“The weapons were taken to Kunak police headquarters for further investigation under Section 40 of Firearm Act 1960,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baharin urged the management of plantations throughout the district to continuously monitor their workers, especially those who have the ability in making home-made guns for illegal hunting.
He hopes the plantation management will provide full cooperation and information if any of their workers possess home-made guns or are committing any offences.
