MIRI: This city needs more crowd-pulling events to further enliven its annual ‘Miri May Fest’ – dubbed as its ‘month of festivals’.

Mayor Adam Yii said in this regard, the Miri City Council (MCC) would give total support to the organisation of any event during May Fest.

“The month of May is very special as it is the month when Mirians celebrate the anniversary of Miri receiving its city status, which was on May 20, 2005.

“This year, the countdown for the celebration has been planned for May 19,” he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from members of Curtin Sarawak Students Council on Thursday.

The visitors were presenting to Yii their proposal for a water party event ‘Slide The City’ – co-organised by the students council and Monkey Theory Sdn Bhd – to be included on the May Fest’s list of events this year.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Frisbee Field of Curtin University Malaysia Campus in Senadin here, on May 5 and 6 – from 8am to 6pm daily.

The organisers expect a turnout of some 8,000 people.

In his remarks, Yii welcomed the students to submit the proposal to MCC public relations section.

“I also welcome others, who are interested to hold events in Miri, to submit their proposals for inclusion on Miri May Fest 2018’s list of events,” he added.
