TUARAN: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has never sidelined the Chinese community from all aspects of development.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau said in terms of education, the government had made it a point to provide necessary assistance to government-type Chinese schools.

There are five government-type Chinese schools here.

“Sometimes, we take for granted that outside China, Malaysia is the only country that provides Chinese education to its citizens,” he said at the Pesta Angpow celebration at Dewan Seri Sulaman here on Saturday.

The event is being rotated among nine Chinese associations and temples here. This year it was Ling San Temple’s turn as host.

Tangau, who is the Tuaran member of parliament, congratulated them for organising the festival without fail for the past 40 years.

He also reiterated his call for all the communities here to continue preserving the racial harmony that they had been enjoying all this while.

“The harmony and strong unity is the pillar for stability that has opened up many economic opportunities for the people in general,” he said.

The event was officiated by Tuaran Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also Minister of Local Government and Housing cum Sulaman assemblyman.

Also on hand were Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Tamparuli community development leader Datuk Jahid Jahim and leaders of the nine Chinese associations and temples here.
