SERIAN: Pipe burst caused by ongoing works on the Pan Borneo Highway project has occurred again in Serian, causing yet another water shortage much to the annoyance to the residents and business community in this town and its surrounding areas.

Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus said the people in Serian town are restless, annoyed and angry over this latest water shortage which happened since Sunday and dragged on until today.

He also said the worst affected were the Serian Hospital and the clinics, since the water shortage affects the health care service.

“Up to this afternoon, works to repair are still going on. People in Serian, especially the owners of food premises, are getting annoyed with these frequent incidents. Families are also affected as far as food preparation is concerned especially for school-going children.

“We were assured that such incident will not occur again after the discussion at Serian District Office sometime last month, with all the the relevant government agencies and parties involved in the construction of Pan Borneo Highway project,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU), through its Facebook page ‘Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak’, posted an update earlier this afternoon on the ongoing works to repair the burst water pipe at the Serian roundabout.

The post informed that “works continued early this morning to repair water pipe burst at Serian roundabout which affected part of the town yesterday. Water supply has been restored in some areas by now.”
