KUCHING: The Sarawak Judo Association will send eight judokas to compete in the Brazilian Jiujitsu International Open Dumau in Taiwan on March 10.

The Sarawak squad will be led by team manager Raphael Mao with Soh Yew Ing assisted by three coaches.

According to Raphael, the team is taking part in the tournament as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2018 Sukma to be held in Perak.

“It is the first time we participate in the event and it is to give exposure to the young athletes in a big-scale tournament ahead of Sukma,” he said during a training session at the Sarawak Judo Gym here on Monday.

He added that the judokas are aiming to win several medals.

Also present during the training session were Sarawak Sports Corporation CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee and Sarawak Judo Association president Francis Chan.

The team will leave for Taiwan today (Mar 7).
